The Gate is situated down the end of a private lane, which ensures privacy and escapism. Over looking the rolling hills of the Cornish Countryside The Gate is surrounded green fields that are home to an abundance of wildlife. When your at The Gate you will be submerged into nature and become at home with nature. We benefit form this tranquil position, but head South out of The Gate and you are just a short walk form the beautiful Talland Bay - A natural rugged Cornish Bay ideal for rock pools and a safe haven for Swimming. Head North out of the Hotel and drop down into the valley of Kilminorth Woods. Walk through the woods and along the river and be in Looe in around 30 mins. The perfect excuse for a pasty and a pint!

The seaside town of Looe keeps visitors entertained all year round whilst still retaining a working fishing port.  Stand on the quayside in the evening and watch the boats return before dining on fresh fish in a local restaurant.  The town prides itself on it's fresh fish, and be it award winning fish and chips near the river or gourmet menus in smart restaurants overlooking the harbour, you know you won't be disappointed.

To work all that food off, Looe is a great place for walking. The South West Coast Path passes through the town, plus there are countless walks in the beautiful countryside, or along the two rivers that flow inland.

Polperro is a charming historic fishing village 3 miles from The Gate. Walk along the coastal cliff path and enter this charming village as the smugglers would have done hundreds of years ago…

Charlestown - an amazingly pristine, unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port. It was constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh. Today it is the perfect place to go for morning coffee, cracking lunch, or evening stroll. It has an abundance of cool cafes and bars and is a must see when your visiting Cornwall. To this day the port remains unspoiled and retains much of its Georgian character. This unique combination has lead to Charlestown being a popular location for film and television locations, credits include the infamous PoldarkHornblowerMansfield Park and many more.

Fowey is a bustling small port which still has a romantic buzz to it. The town is packed with independent cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. A small walk out of Fowey will take you to Readymoney beach where you can take a dip in the arm crystal clear waters. Further round the headland and you can walk out to Gribbin Head with far fetching views across the North Atlantic Ocean. This charming town is situated a short drive from The Gate and is a must on the to do list.

Padstow is situated on the north Cornish coast about 45 minutes drive from The Gate. The fishing port of Padstow has seen its popularity explode over recent years. Centred around the attractive harbour the bustling town is an eclectic mix of fisherman's cottages and merchant's houses. The success of the town can be attributed to its inherent charms but there is no denying that a certain celebrity chef Rick Stein has contributed to putting Padstow as a firm favourite amongst tourists and locals alike.

Tintagel Castle is just over an hour’s drive from The Gate is a highly recommended day trip. Venture over there and immerse yourself in history, myths and stunning scenery at Tintagel Castle set high on Cornwall's rugged north coast. Inextricably linked with the legend of King Arthur, for centuries this dramatic castle and coastline has fired the imaginations of writers, artists and even the brother of a king. Now it's your turn to be inspired.
